“They’ve Run Out of Money. Now They’re Coming After Yours.”
Surrey, BC: Kerry-Lynne Findlay today slammed the BC NDP government’s latest budget as a complete and historic failure on affordability - delivering new tax hikes that will make life significantly more expensive for every working family, senior and small business at the very moment British Columbians needed cost-of-living relief the most.
“After a decade of reckless NDP spending that turned a surplus into a record $13.3 billion deficit and more than tripled provincial debt to $182 billion, the NDP have run out of money,” said Kerry-Lynne Findlay. “Now David Eby and the NDP are coming after more and more of your hard-earned money with higher and higher taxes. Taxes are up in this budget, and the NDP tax hikes are just getting started.”
Findlay called the NDP budget “a historic failure on the cost of living crisis”.
“This budget makes life more expensive, not less. British Columbians desperately needed real relief on grocery prices, gas prices, rent and mortgage bills. Instead, the NDP delivered a $1.1 billion annual income tax hike on working families. They did it by raising the lowest bracket and freezing tax bracket indexation until 2030, in addition to a massive PST expansion onto landlines, cable TV, clothing repairs and professional services.”
According to the latest MNP Consumer debt index report for BC, nearly half of British Columbians report being $200 or less away from financial insolvency each month.
“This is the worst possible budget for the cost of living crisis, at the worst possible time for British Columbians who are already struggling to make ends meet,” said Findlay.
