News Release: No Tax on Gas

Kerry-Lynne Findlay Announces Plan for 12-Month Suspension of All Provincial Gas Taxes to Save British Columbians 44 Cents Per Litre.

Surrey, BC: Conservative Party of BC leadership candidate Kerry-Lynne Findlay today unveiled her “No Tax on Gas” plan – a bold 12-month suspension of every provincial tax on gasoline and diesel, delivering immediate relief of up to 44 cents per litre for drivers, families, and businesses across British Columbia.

“British Columbians are hurting at the pump, and the NDP’s endless tax hikes are making it worse,” said Findlay. “While families struggle to pay for groceries and commuters face record-high fuel costs, the NDP keeps piling on taxes to fund bloated government programs and corporate handouts. Enough is enough. If I’m elected Leader and Premier, my first priority will be to give that money back to you.”

Under the “No Tax on Gas” plan, the following provincial taxes would be suspended for 12 months:

  • The provincial motor fuel tax (8.5¢ per litre)
  • The TransLink gas tax in Metro Vancouver (up to 18.5¢ per litre), and Regional transit taxes that support BC Transit
  • The hidden “second carbon tax” under the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (projected to reach 17¢ per litre by 2030)

Total savings: up to 44 cents per litre.

These savings will flow directly to British Columbians. Lower diesel prices will reduce transportation costs for truckers, bringing down prices at grocery stores and helping every family put food on the table.

Findlay’s plan is funded by ending wasteful spending, especially the NDP’s CleanBC program, including:

  • Eliminating $50 million in annual subsidies for residential heat pumps.
  • Scrapping the costly “energy coach” bureaucracy that tells British Columbians how to live.
  • Suspending corporate welfare grants to foreign multinational corporations – including the undisbursed $80 million provincial grant promised to E-One Moli Energy, a Taiwanese company that has now shelved its Maple Ridge battery plant expansion.

“British Columbians don’t need more government handouts to foreign companies that walk away from their promises,” Findlay said. “We need relief in our own wallets. The NDP’s corporate welfare and green bureaucracy have failed – it’s time to put people first.”

Findlay contrasted her plan with the NDP’s record of higher taxes and bigger government. “While David Eby raises taxes on the essentials we all need, I will cut them. While the NDP sends taxpayer dollars to multinational corporations, I will send that money back to you.”

The 12-month suspension will provide immediate relief while a new Conservative government conducts a full review of provincial fuel taxes and CleanBC spending, with the goal of making tax relief permanent wherever possible.

“British Columbians are smart, hardworking, and resilient,” Findlay concluded. “Give us a break at the pump, and we’ll get this province moving again. Together, we can make life more affordable – starting with No Tax on Gas.”

Under this plan, transit funding will be fully protected and maintained.
