Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s bold vision for a powerful Western Alliance - focused on expanding transportation corridors, strengthening interprovincial trade, and building energy infrastructure across the West, including Vancouver Island.
Highway 1 on Vancouver Island is a vital part of the national Trans-Canada Highway system and must be upgraded. As Premier of British Columbia, my government will implement the following policies:
- Trans-Canada Highway 1 between Langford and Victoria (Saanich Centre) will be upgraded to eight (8) lanes to finally eliminate the traffic congestion called the “Colwood Crawl”.
- Highway 1 from Langford through the Malahat will be upgraded to four lanes of divided highway (with additional lanes where practical) with high standard safety features to stop needless deaths and accidents.
- Highway 1 from Cobble Hill to Nanaimo and the part of Highway 19 with many stoplights called the “Nanaimo Parkway” will be upgraded to freeway standards befitting a G7 country such as Canada.
- Lobby the Federal Government to expand port capacity throughout Vancouver Island.
