Policy: Repeal the Legal Professions Act 2024 (LPA), previously known as Bill 21

Restore legal independence and self-regulation. Defend your rights and freedoms. Stop Government Overreach. Put British Columbians first.

British Columbia runs on people who work - including the lawyers and legal professionals who stand up every day to protect our rights and keep our justice system fair. But the NDP government is crushing that independence with more control and red tape.

In 2024, the NDP passed the Legal Professions Act - previously known as Bill 21. It shuts down the Law Society of BC and creates a new government-heavy regulator for lawyers, notaries and paralegals. It slashes the power of elected lawyers and hands real control to political appointees. It puts bureaucrats between lawyers and their clients and threatens the independence of the entire legal profession. Lawyers and bar associations call it an attack on the rule of law that will make it harder for everyday British Columbians to get fearless representation when they need it most - especially against the government itself.

Let me be clear: this NDP takeover of our legal profession and our justice system stops with a real Conservative BC Government.

As Premier and Leader of the Conservative Party of BC, I will fully repeal the Legal Professions Act on day one. We will restore true self-regulation and independence to the legal profession, protect the lawyer-client relationship, defend the rule of law, and make sure lawyers can fearlessly advocate for their clients and for your rights and your freedoms without government interference.

This race is a simple choice: more NDP control and hidden agendas, or a reliable Conservative who stands up for freedom and the foundations of our justice system.

Together, we’ll cut the red tape, restore legal and judicial independence where it matters most, and build a freer, stronger British Columbia - where our legal professionals can focus on defending your rights, not fighting political bureaucrats. Real change is coming, and it starts with electing a reliable conservative as Premier and Leader of the Conservative Party of BC.
